Here we are: Are you an Ethical hacker?

Well, first of all i want to thank you guys for joining my blog! There are many blogs out there, but since i believe i can provide good quality content, here i am..Computers have become of routinary use nowadays..well what are the PROS(+) and the CONS(-):
+ they can do tasks rather fast
+ they can communicate through a network and reduce the distance among people
+ they can help us storing a huge amount of data and retrieving it by using simple queries
+ they induce us being objective using math and logic (not bad uh?)

How long did you take to get it? :D

- they can be addictive at times :P

- they can be used to attack other computers, violate privacy or steal private contents


Computers are just an extension of our mind, we ask them to do something and as long as we are able to translate our thought into a program, they just execute any command line by line. They are powerful instruments, they are just machines, have no soul and it all depends on whether you want to create something the society considerates useful, useless, nice, tasteless, harmful.

"With great power comes great responsability"

A hacker is a computer security expert with a great knowledge of the main OS, programming languages, network interfaces, applications bugs / vulnerabilities client or server side. -A scientist of the IT-.

A person who uses hacking tools without having great programming skills is called newbie, script kiddie or it can be addressed by using the derogatory name lamer.

Not all the hackers are the same, it's time to distinguish them. 

BLACK HAT VS WHITE HAT

Often common people are scared when they hear the term "hacker" on tv, this is sometimes justified by the bad actions committed, but other times it's just a big prejudice.

A black hat hacker is a person who uses his knowledge for damaging other people, penetrating into systems, stealing or destroying data for himself or for other people who paid him for the service.

A white hat hacker or ethical hacker instead is a security professional whose passion is assessing vulnerabilities in programs or web applications and reporting them to the sys admins. If the hacker doesn't have the permission to do it, this still represents a violation of the law, so i won't encourage this practice, though he doesn't have bad intents like a black hat hacker has. Some ethical hackers mixed business with pleasure and they do penetration testing and security assessment tests in the total respect of law, working for customers who ask them to simulate real scenarios of a hacker attack, evaluate the security and provide eventual bug fixes or countermeasures for defending from hackers - this time the real bad black hat :p - .

Pen testing is a professional job and it requires advanced skills, i'll go more in depth about this topic in another article.

So after reading this, who do you think you are?

- a common person willing to improve his pc security and gain a wider awareness of the threats

- a newbie willing to become a white hat: well, study hard and i'll help you

- a white hat: you are welcome here..your contribution is well accepted

- a black hat or black hat-to-be: unless you want to convert into a white hat you aren't welcome here
